I am a scholar, teacher, and reader of children's and young adult literature.
I grew up in Williamsburg, Virginia, attended the College of William and Mary, and then received my MA in English (with a specialization in Children's Literature) from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, where I wrote my MA thesis titled "Gender Bending in L. Frank Baum's Oz Series."
I then moved to Columbus, Ohio, to work on my PhD in Literature for Children and Young Adults at the Ohio State University, where I am currently finishing my dissertation, titled "Mapping Mayhem: American Geographies and Fan Response to Suzanne Collins' Hunger Games Series." I teach courses in children's literature and young adult literature in the Department of Teaching and Learning at Ohio State.
When I'm not reading, teaching, or writing, I enjoy hiking, exploring the Midwest, and spending time with my husband and our two dogs.
