I am a scholar, teacher, and reader of children's and young adult literature.

I grew up in Williamsburg, Virginia, attended the College of William and Mary, and then received my MA in English (with a specialization in Children's Literature) from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, where I wrote my MA thesis titled "Gender Bending in L. Frank Baum's Oz Series."

I then moved to Columbus, Ohio, to work on my PhD in Literature for Children and Young Adults at the Ohio State University, where I completed a dissertation, titled "Restorying Dystopia: Exploring the Hunger Games Series Through U.S. Cultural Geographies, Identities, and Fan Response." At Ohio State, I taught courses in children's literature and young adult literature in the Department of Teaching and Learning at Ohio State.
